October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month.
YOU can create job opportunities! If you are interested in learning more about hiring adults with disabilities, contact Mona Young, Regional Job Developer at myoung@winonaorc.org.
Adults with disabilities are an often untapped source of
skilled, innovative, and dedicated employees.
Everyday, adults with disabilities make significant contributions to workplaces in the Winona area. They are a large part of economic success, yet they have fewer opportunities than people without disabilities.
The unemployment rate is at a historic high for the United States. While many have been affected by the downturn of the economy, people with disabilities are even more vulnerable. The national unemployment rate in August was 9.3% for people without disabilities. Compare that to 16.9% for people with disabilities which is almost doubled. It doesn’t have to be this way and YOU can help. We offer a wide variety of services and ability levels to fit your business needs. We focus on what people can do, not what they can’t. As the largest employer of adults with disabilities in Winona, we provide job opportunities to over 320 people on a daily basis in Southeast Minnesota and Western Wisconsin.
At Winona ORC, we are celebrating National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) in October. We invite you, a community member, to come take a tour of our facility at 1053 East Mark Street and see first hand how our organization makes a difference. Disability.gov says it best: “People with disabilities are an often untapped source of skilled, innovative, and dedicated employees.” Learn how you can tap into skilled workers in Winona at www.winonaorc.org.
