Subject: Business Appreciation Week Award Nomination for Outstanding Achievement in Workforce Development
Winona ORC provides job opportunities to over 310 people on a daily basis. They are driven to help provide the best programs to help make our friends and neighbors with disabilities succeed in employment. A collaboration between Winona ORC, The Workforce Center, Minnesota State College Southeast Technical, Adult Basic Education, Minnesota Vocation Rehabilitation, and Winona Area Public Schools led to the development of a wonderful program called ‘Stack for Success’ in 2010. This program is a great example of job training development for the long-term success of our community members and is being funded through a grant from the State of Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED).
‘Stack for Success’ is a program and system to assist people with disabilities with acquiring additional training and credentials in a variety of employment areas. These credentials will aid people in becoming more active in the work force by gaining competitive employment.
Employment areas covered under this grant include customer service, janitorial, retail, food service, forklift certification, and truck driving. Each training is systematic, supervised, coached and cultivated; providing tools for participants to be successful and productive community members.
All these local organizations should be commended for their work in creating a successful job training program for people with disabilities right here in the Winona area. For this reason, I am proud to nominate Winona ORC, The Workforce Center, Minnesota State College Southeast Technical, Adult Basic Education, Minnesota Vocation Rehabilitation, and Winona Area Public Schools for the Outstanding Achievement in Workforce Development award as part of Business Appreciation week.
